Testing

Some of the more popular testing options are listed below, but many more exist that maybe an option-please request more information if you are looking for a specific test that is not listed below.

Food Sensitivities Profile

The Genova Bloodspot IgG4 Food Antibodies Profile can be used to test either 30 or 90 different food sensitivities. The responses to these foods are tested and then categorized by severity from borderline to mild, moderate, or severe. IgG4 antibodies are associated with delayed food reactions that can contribute to many health conditions, and are actually far more common than the typical allergy IgGE immediate reaction response that most are familiar with. These “hidden” food sensitivities can occur at any age and cause a wide range of symptoms including inflammatory reactions in the joints, skin, large and small intestine, and sinuses.

Reactions to these foods may not occur for several hours or even days, and this is what makes them so difficult to detect. The 30-food sensitivity profile just requires a simple finger prick, and the 90-food sensitivity test a venipuncture. Kristy will determine which test is best for you. Hidden food sensitivities may be the reason that you are experiencing an inability to lose excess weight, have food cravings, fluid retention and bloating, sinus issues and other allergies, anxiety, mood and energy swings, inability to concentrate, and immune system issues just to name a few. Kristy will educate you on how to address any sensitivities found.

Spectracell Micronutrient Deficiency Testing

This is a next generation blood test for measuring specific vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other essential micronutrients within an individual’s white blood cells (lymphocytes). It is the gold standard for this type of test. Lymphocytes have a 4-6 month lifespan, and the nutrient levels accumulated in these lymphocytes represent a history of an individual’s nutrient status. This system is analogous to using HbA1c measurements to approximate a diabetic person’s glucose levels over the months preceding a test. The lymphocytes provide a history rather than a snapshot of nutrient intake. Because nutrient status is a vital foundation of health, each micronutrient plays an important role in promoting optimal cell function. When cells do not function their best, our health is compromised.

Vitamin deficiencies are not just a reflection of diet. We are all biochemically unique and nutrient deficiencies will vary from patient to patient, and do not necessarily correlate directly with nutrient intake, as may factors beyond diet determine whether nutrient function is adequate. These include biochemical differences, genetics, absorption, metabolism, and age. Disease conditions and medications can also affect nutrient levels. Every biochemical process in the body depends on specific nutrients to carry out the process. Inflammation, weight loss resistance, hormonal imbalances, decreased energy, depression, lack of proper blood sugar regulation, inability to burn fat or gain muscle, are just a few conditions that can result from a lack of vital nutrients. If you are feeling unhealthy, a nutrient deficiency may be to blame. Typical blood work does not address the possibility of nutrient deficiencies.

Adrenal Hormone Testing

Stress is an underlying cause of many chronic illnesses from chronic fatigue, and weight gain, to allergies. The adrenal stress profile measures the individual’s response to stress. Adrenal hormones Cortisol and DHEA are steroids that affect carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism, and they also serve as modulators of thyroid function and help the body manage stress. Issues with these hormones may cause a wide range of symptoms that can impact individual’s energy level, emotions, and disease resistance. Simple, timed salivary specimen collections make this test a convenient, and economical option.

When the Adrenal Stress Profile indicates an inappropriate hormonal stress response, it is necessary to consider stress reduction through diet and lifestyle modification, and nutritional supplementation to support adrenal gland activity and enhance the restoration of the physical barrier in the gut. Kristy will then design a program to specifically support your system’s needs.

Female Hormones

Are you experiencing hormonal weight gain? Do you feel moody, bloated, foggy, and tired at certain times during the month? Are you experiencing fertility issues? Do you gain a pant size due to PMS symptoms? Do you suffer from hot flashes? Are you experiencing low or no sex drive? It may be time to test your hormone levels and effectively address the symptoms associated with hormone imbalance. It may also be necessary to asses how well your liver is “clearing” hormones from your system, as well as how well the rest of your body is functioning. A healthy liver is necessary for hormone balance as is a healthy toxin free body!

Kristy often utilizes saliva testing for a complete hormonal picture. Through saliva testing we are able to test the “free hormones” or active hormones in the system. Depending on the patient’s needs, a single saliva test or a more comprehensive saliva test will be prescribed to assess where hormone levels are throughout the month. A menstruating female has hormone fluctuations EVERY DAY and this fact makes it impossible for a single sample blood test to provide accurate information as to what is happening during the entire month’s cycle. This comprehensive testing involves saliva collections done in the comfort of your home every other day of your cycle. This testing allows insight into your hormonal imbalances and the daily fluctuations, thus allowing your doctor to implement a protocol specific to your hormone needs.

Women experiencing hot flashes and inflammation benefit greatly from our natural supplementation and purification work. Through specific protocols we are able to help you increase your energy, lose that stubborn menopause weight, and feel more like yourself.

This testing may be for you if you are experiencing any symptoms that you feel may be related to your hormones. The doctor will consult with you and let you know which test is right for you.

NutrEval by Genova

What is the NutrEval?
NutrEval is Genova’s most comprehensive nutritional evaluation and is designed to assist with management of symptoms related to nutritional deficiencies. This profile assesses numerous metabolic pathways and synthesizes this complex biochemistry into actionable treatment options. Critical nutrients that are functionally assessed on Genova’s nutritional profiles include:

  • Antioxidants
  • B Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Essential Fatty Acids
  • Digestive Support

The personalized supplement recommendations, adjusted for the age and sex of the patient, guide therapeutic protocols in identifying clinical imbalances that may inhibit optimal health.

Studies suggest that even a balanced diet may not provide all essential nutrients. NutrEval supports assessment of a patient’s nutritional needs by identifying nutritional deficiencies that may be associated with complex chronic conditions.
